CONGRATULATIONS to Patrick Finegan who received the Bishop Begley Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service. This prestigious award is given to only one youth from the Diocese of Charlotte. Patrick received the award Sunday at the Diocesan Youth Conference.
WREATHS designed by our Catholic Women's Circle members will be on sale at the "Whole Bloomin' Thing" street fair at Frog Level in Waynesville on May 10th. Please come and support this project. Proceeds will be used to furnish our new activity center kitchen!
THE RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE is sponsoring Pro-Life Meditations on the Mysteries of the rosary every Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the church. Copies of the meditations will be provided for your use. Please join us in praying for a culture of life in our society. "Never tire of firmly speaking out in defense of life from its conception and do not be deterred from the commitment to defend the dignity of every human person with courageous determination. Christ is with you: be not afraid!" (Pope John Paul II).
FOR US LADIES a women's retreat has been planned for Saturday, May 17 at the Living Waters Retreat Center in Maggie Valley. Sister Fran's retreat is titled, "Bud to Bloom/Celebrating Mary," What would Mary do? The retreat is from 9:00AM to 3:30PM. The $20 fee covers the the retreat and lunch. FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP RESOURCES are available from the US Catholic Bishops (USCCB) covering a wide variety of ‘faithful citizenship’ resources on the website www.faithfulcitizenship.org or en Espanol, www.ciudadanosfieles.org. The website includes the text of the US Catholic Bishops statement “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” A Call to Political Responsibility form the Catholic Bishops of the United States.
HOSPICE VOLUNTEER TRAINING will be held on May 12,14,19, and 21 from 9:00AM to noon at the Canton First United Methodist Social Hall. This 12 hr. program will orient volunteers to the hospice philosophy and services. Attendance is required for all potential volunteers. Please call Miles Smith at 452-8696 for more information.
